Rebecca Allen is Director of Education Datalab and an expert in the analysis of large scale administrative and survey datasets, including the National Pupil Database and School Workforce Census. Her research explores the impact of government reforms on school behaviour, with a particular focus on accountability and teacher labour markets. She is currently on leave from her academic post as Reader in Economics of Education at UCL Institute of Education.
Dave Thomson is Chief Statistician at FFT with over fifteen years’ experience working with educational attainment data to raise attainment in local government, higher education and the commercial sector. His current research interests include linking education and workplace datasets to improve estimates of adult attainment and study the impact of education on employment and benefits outcomes.
Mike Treadaway is Director of Research at FFT and has over 20 years of experience in working with education data in the context of school improvement. A former teacher, since founding FFT he has developed models for analysing pupil progress, has led the processing, matching and data analysis for the National Pupil Database, and has provided advice to DfE to support the development of new school accountability indicators and analysis of national trends in school performance.
Laura James is the Education Datalab Manager and project manager with over five years’ experience of managing large scale data and research projects. She is currently National Project Manager for TALIS (Teacher and Learning International Survey) 2018 and for the Educational Endowment Foundation’s data archive project.
Dave Bibby specialises in resolving the technical challenges inherent in maintaining and analysing large education datasets. He develops and implements methods for handling such issues as the cleaning of raw data, imputation and estimation of missing data, linking of multiple datasets and carrying out complex analysis in very large datasets.
Lisa Godfrey is our Partnerships and Communications Officer. She assists with the smooth running of our projects, working with our lead analysts and commissioning partners. She also promotes Education Datalab’s research findings to educational audiences and media platforms.
Anil is a Researcher at Education Datalab, carrying out analysis and development of statistical methods. Coming from a life sciences background, Anil has worked with outreach programmes and the educational opportunities charity Jacari. He has a special interest in education’s role in social mobility and combatting inequality.
Philip Nye is a part-time Researcher with Education Datalab, carrying out analysis and producing data visualisations. A journalist by training, Philip previously worked at Schools Weeks and continues to work as a freelance reporter. His particular research interests include free schools and the broader academies programme.
Chris Wheadon is a Research Associate at Education Datalab and is one of the UK’s leading experts in assessment. He is the Founder of No More Marking Ltd, a company that uses comparative judgement to assess work more accurately than traditional marking techniques. He has designed the Proof of Progress tests from FFT.
John Jerrim is a Research Associate at Education Datalab and a Reader in Educational and Social Statistics at UCL Institute of Education. John’s research interests include the economics of education, access to higher education, intergenerational mobility, cross-national comparisons and educational inequalities.
Sarah Tang is a Research Associate at Education Datalab and a PhD student at UCL Institute of Education. She qualified as a Mathematics teacher as part of the inaugural Teach First cohort and has subsequently worked as Evaluation Officer at the Education Endowment Foundation and as a Research Officer at UCL Institute of Education.
